Yukon Imagination Library
| Imagination Library Update |
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is… free - for all Yukon Families!
What is it?
In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families. She wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.
So she decided to mail a brand new, age appropriate book each month to every child under 5 in Sevier County. With the arrival of every child’s first book, the classic The Little Engine That Could ™, every child could now experience the joy of finding their very own book in their mail box. These moments continue each month until the child turns 5—and in their very last month in the program they receive Look Out Kindergarten Here I Come.

Thanks to the Rendezvous Rotary Club of Whitehorse, and thanks to support from the Yukon Government and others, children in the Yukon are eligible for the Yukon Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
The Yukon Dolly Parton Imagination Library is designed to give children and their families a chance to build a library of their own. The child’s family will receive an age appropriate book every month for the first five years of that child’s life. Registration started in Yukon communities on October 19, 2007 and Whitehorse children became eligible on January 27th, 2009, Family Literacy Day.
How does it work?
Each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child’s name directly to your home. He or she can look forward to new and exciting reading adventures from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library until he/she turns five years old, as long as you remain a resident of a Yukon community.
Who is eligible?
Babies, 0 - 12 months old, residing anywhere in the Yukon can be registered for the Yukon Imagination Library!
What are my responsibilities?
- Be a resident of a Yukon community.
Submit an official registration form, completely filled out by parent or guardian (form must be approved and on file with the Yukon Literacy Coalition).- Notify the Yukon Literacy Coalition any time your address changes.
- Read with your child.
How can I help?
